Marie Kubiak, Struan Henderson, Toby Trimbleworks and Kathryn Tovey work at our Edgbaston branch and have specialist knowledge of more unusual and exotic animals.
Marie Kubiak graduated from Bristol University following placements within zoos, exotic animal practice and an elective placement at Great Western Exotic Vets. She spent two years as a first opinion exotics vet in Kent, before returning to GWEV as a resident of the European College of Zoological Medicine. Here she received three years of training to specialist standard in all aspects of veterinary medicine and surgery with particular focus on exotic animal species. She also saw both first opinion and referral exotic cases throughout this period. She has completed the RCVS certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice with distinction in both the Avian and Reptile examinations and a credit in small pet mammals. She is now studying for the European Diploma in Avian Medicine and Surgery. Marie has also received intensive training in poultry health with the Institute of Animal Health and regularly writes on poultry health for Smallholder magazine. She contributes to veterinary journals on exotic animal topics and is involved in various research projects investigating aspects health in avian and reptile groups.
Although Marie does treat the more conventional animals such as cats and dogs, she has particular interest in reptile medicine and surgery and has kept a variety of reptiles from tiny dwarf geckos to various large boa and monitor species but has down-sized following her move to Birmingham and currently has only a colony of sheltopusiks.
Struan Henderson BVetMed MRCVS
Struan graduated from the Royal Veterinary College, London, in 2002, and started his career at our Edgbaston branch (then Sandon Veterinary Group). Although he spent his primary years dealing mainly with dogs and cats, it was with exotics that his interests truely lay. This was pursued and led to the establishment of the exotics department at Manor Vets, in 2006, which has developed into a key part of services offered by the practice today. Initially his interests mainly involved reptiles, which was brought about largely by his keeping and breeding of tortoises as a teenager. Latterly, however, he has honed his skills in avian medicine and surgery, in working in an avian and exotic pet practice in Dubai, UAE, and it is this knowledge and expertise that he brings back to Manor. He is a member of the British Veterinary Zoological Society, and is enrolled on the RCVS Advanced Veterinary Practice Certificate in Zoological Medicine.
Toby Trimble BVM BVS (Hons) BVMedSci (Hons) MRCVS
Toby graduated from the University of Nottingham with honours and has dedicated much of his time to gaining extensive experience in exotic animal medicine at facilities around the world. He undertook a summer internship at Loro Parque in Tenerife. He also spent time studying parrot behaviour at the Medical Center for Birds in California. Before Toby became a vet he worked as a falconer and at a parrot breeding centre, he is also a keen falconer and aviculturist.
Kathryn Tovey BVSc MRCVS
Kathryn graduated from University of Liverpool in 2004. Kathryn worked at Scarsdale Veterinary Group for several years and developed her interest in exotic species there. Her interest in exotic species has been fueled by extensive travelling encompassing contact with animals and culture in the more unusual and hidden away parts of the world.

The Edgbaston site is situated in a very prominent and prestigious position on the main A456 coming out of Birmingham. There is a large dedicated free car park. It is currently undergoing complete refurbishment from nose to tail and will shortly include the latest exotic pet facilities with an exotics only ward along with a separate raptor ward. Of course, the new site will also encompass the usual exceptional standards of general small animal facilities. The surgery is open as usual whilst the improvements take place.
