These two rescue cats came in yesterday to be spayed (neutered).
For female cats, the incision is usually made on the left flank. A patch of fur is shaved and the skin is scrubbed several times with an anti-septic and anti-bacterial solution before the surgery begins.
The preparation for surgery is done is a separate room we call the "Prep Room", before the patient is moved into the sterile theatre.
With siblings such as Ginny & Luna, as soon as they are awake they are re-united with each other (under close supervision to make sure they are not licking each others surgery site).
