Hedgehog Awareness Week 5th – 11th May 2019
Hedgehogs are known for their ability to roll themselves into a ball of spines when threatened. These spines are actually modified hairs and the average hedgehog has about 7000 of them, which can be raised using powerful muscles along their back.
There are many simple things we can all do to help hedgehogs: The British Hedgehog Preservation Society offers this advice;
🦔 Move piles of rubbish to a new site before burning it.
🦔 Check areas carefully before mowing or strimming.
🦔 Ensure netting is kept at a safe height.
🦔 Check compost heaps before digging the fork in.
🦔 Stop or reduce the amount of pesticides and poisons used.
🦔 Cover drains or deep holes.
🦔 Ensure there is an easy route out of ponds & pools.
🦔 Make sure there are gaps in boundary fences and walls to allow easy passage.
We are fortunate at Manor Vets to have an amazing team of committed, talented and enthusuastic staff.
